~Questions & Answers~
What is the Parent’s Club?
The Parent’s Club is a non-profit fundraising club maintained by Blake’s parents. It is the entity through which all fundraising is done and through which meet fees are paid.
How do I join?
Once your child becomes either a Level 3 or Copper division gymnast, you automatically become a member. An account will be established for your child, which you can use to deposit your own money, or you may fundraise. All monies fundraised or deposited into your child’s account may be used to offset any gymnastics expenses (leos, camp, meets, etc.) other than tuition. At no time are you required to keep a balance in your account.
How do I fundraise?
Fundraising pamphlets are periodically placed in your child’s folder. You may choose to do any, all, or none of them. All money raised by you will be placed directly in your child’s account. None of this profit goes into a general fund. You keep 100% of the profit from your fundraising efforts.
What happens to money raised at our meets and team fundraisers?
That money goes into a general fund to help cover coaches meet expenses. Often there are several sessions based on age, divisions and only a few gymnasts may be in each session during a competition. In that case, the $15-$20 fee does not cover the cost of the coach, so the general fund offsets the difference. This occurs often, especially at USAG meets, as they are divided into both level and age groupings.
What attire will my child need and what are the costs?
Your child will need the competitive leotard and team warm-up. You may purchase them used from a growing gymnast for 50% of the cost, or you may buy them new. The cost for a new leotard is approximately $50 for level 3 and can be up to $160 for all other levels. The warm-up is $135 new for compulsory levels and $110 for optional. Gymnasts typically wear the leotards and warm-ups for several years.
How many meets will my child attend?
Our compulsory gymnasts compete at in-house competition and a few local out of house venues; while our optional gymnast compete approximately one a month off season and 2-3 times a month during their competitive season.
What are the costs of attending meets?
All in-house meets range from $50 to $60 and are refundable for scratches due to injury. Out of house meet fees range from $65 for small, local competitions to $150 for larger, upper level meets and are non refundable. In addition, each gymnast must have a number to compete. The cost for this number is $53 each August for USAG and $30 yearly for USAIGC.
Why are we charged more to attend out of house meets?
During in-house competitions, Tracey covers all coaches travel and meet costs. During away meets, parents are responsible for the cost for coaches expenses. We typically add $15-$20 per meet to cover these expenses.
What is an Invitational, Sectional ect?
Invitationals are meets where other gyms have been invited to attend. You may move up a level or qualify to Sectionals at these meets. In-house meets where no other gyms have been invited do not allow gymnasts to qualify for Sectionals. Sectionals are qualifying meets to go to states for USAG level gymnasts. We typically go to these at optional levels 7 and up. USAIGC requires only qualifying at an invitational to attend States.
How does my child move to the next level?
The qualifying score that USAG requires at any meet to move on to the next level is a 31 all-around. Once a 31 is achieved, you will discuss with your child’s coach the appropriate level to foster gymnastic achievement. Blake’s follows USAG guidelines for movement. Please read the Ezine gymnastics article on our home page.
What are my responsibilities?
You will be obligated to work in some capacity and donate 1 food or beverage item or make a $25 donation at each of our in-house Invitational competitions per year. (We will have an attachment online for jobs available) You will also need to participate in all group fundraisers such as any Beef and Beer or Golf Tournaments, etc. that we may host.
